History of Seaford Mission/now Mission of Hope
In 1990, the East side of Seaford, Delaware was considered a red
zone by police. The Wall Street Journal wrote about its drug
problems. A shooting resulted in the death of the son of a local
pastor. In coping with his grief, the minister received a vision
from God that the area could be restored. Eventually, through much
prayer and effort, the bar where the boy was shot was closed. In
1996, in its place, the Seaford Mission was created.
In July 2000, a building next to the Mission was opened as a
dormitory for residents. God’s miracles and provisions continued to
unfold. In 2007, the name was changed to Mission of Hope, to reflect
the broader base of its service, which now extends well beyond
Seaford.
